Lampada Caio
A lamp shaped by tension, balance and transformation.
Concept
Caio combines the counterweight logic of Tizio with the cable tension system of Tolomeo, creating a lamp based on balance, structure and movement.
Research
The project starts from the analysis of two icons of Italian lighting design: Tizio by Richard Sapper and Tolomeo by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina.
Tizio introduces a precise system of weights and conductive arms. Tolomeo works through steel cables and articulated joints. Caio brings these two principles together through the idea of tenso-illumination.
Development
The first sketches explore a lamp that can remain stable through a calibrated relationship between arm, weight and cable tension.
The aim is to create an object that is simple to use, visually light and technically readable.
First sketch
Tension.
The lamp works through a system of cables and balanced forces.
Balance.
Weights and structural elements define stability and movement.
Transformation.
The packaging becomes a support, turning the table lamp into a floor lamp.
Packaging
The packaging is not treated as a disposable container, but as a functional part of the project.
A ribbed glass cylinder, 50 cm high and 2 cm thick, houses the lamp during transport and becomes a structural support for the floor version.
The internal LED light emphasizes the texture of the glass, creating soft lines and reflections that recall the movement of water.
Final renders
Final visualizations show the lamp as an object, a lighting system and a transformable product.
