Linea Variabile
A sliding door that transforms image, movement and perception.
Concept
Linea Variabile turns the daily gesture of opening and closing a door into a visual transformation between unity and fragmentation.
Story
The project is conceived not only as a functional sliding door, but as a narrative and visual device. A drawing applied or engraved on the panels changes meaning according to the movement of the door.
When the door opens, the surfaces slide until they compose a single continuous image. When it closes, the image fragments across the panels, becoming a sequence of shifted and unreadable portions.
This transformation reflects on the dialogue between order and visual chaos, showing how the perception of an image depends on time, movement and the position of the observer.
Sliding panels.
The door works through moving surfaces that alter the reading of the image.
Fragmentation.
When closed, the drawing breaks into separate portions and becomes abstract.
Composition.
When open, the panels align and reveal a continuous visual field.
Material finish.
Ultra-matte lacquer, Canaletto walnut and Zebrano define the material language.
Render
The render sequence shows the door through its main states: closed, semi-open and open.

Technical data
The technical study defines the sliding system, panel dimensions, sections and material layers of the door.
The project includes wooden multilayer panels, tempered glass and masonry elements, with orthogonal projections and sections developed at technical scale.
Technical drawings
Drawings and sections describe the construction logic, movement and material composition of the system.

Ambient
Ambient views show how the visual system changes with the position of the sliding panels.
